With the advent of the winter season, most people do not need to see your eyes. They believe that a strong eye care is needed in the summer. It is very important for you to protect your eyes from harmful Ultra Violet rays (UV rays).
In winter UV radiation not only come from heaven, but also reflected from the earth surface. UV ray exposure in winters can damage your eyes temporarily and can develop eye disorders like cataracts. Not only the sun that affects the eyes, but other culprits are dry air and cool breeze.
Here are a few Eye Care Tips for winter proposed by the American Academy of Ophthalmology.
- In winter, indoor heaters used tend to dry the air moisture, which can cause irritation and dryness in your eyes. It is advised to use a humidifier in your house in winter. This would be helpful to tolerate the forced sale of air temperature and keep dry eyes moist.
- Use shades that are capable of inhibiting 99-100% of UV rays, especially when the land is snow falls. Remember that sunlight reflected from snow can lead to sunburned eyes. Declared eyes to ultraviolet rays of the sun in the winter can cause temporary damage as UVC. So it is advisable for you to use high-quality UV-blocking sunglasses.
- If you are using contact lenses it is advisable for you to use artificial tears frequently and limit your outdoor lighting. If you are using contact lenses then limit your alcohol intake. Remember that soft lenses need a lot of moisture and if they tend to dry you can stick and change the shape of your eyes.
- This advice is especially for snow lovers as they spend much time in the snow. They are at greater risk of developing a temporary eye problem where they should be used properly fitted pair of ski goggles with polycarbonate lenses.
- To protect the tear film evaporation it is recommended to use a hooded jacket and brimmed hat as they will prevent your eyes from the cold wind.
- Apply an eye cream around the eyes as it will be helpful in protecting the delicate eye area from the harsh winter.
